9/11: Past for America, Present for Oceans

On this day, thousands - hundreds of thousands - of people across America are looking back on the day of September 11, 2001 and how it would forever be written in history books for future generations of the nation.. remembering the feeling when it happened... re-living it in their head over and over... mourning over lost loved ones, friends, neighbors, and many more citizens. 

But, one thing they do not remember, nor do they even realize, is that we humans are inflicting these acts of terror, death, and pain on the Oceans, without even realizing it. We are committing acts that are similar to those committed on 9/11. We are ambushing and attacking innocent beings (dolphins, whales, etc.), taking them from their families, to suffer a great pain, and finally conclude it with a horrid death toll reaching the thousands.

The fishermen are the terrorists, lives in the oceans are the victims, and those sticking up for them are the rescue team. 

Every year on this day, we remember those who were lost. We still feel rapid anger and hatred for those who have taken beloved souls from our lives forever. I believe families of dolphins also feel this sadness and anger. They feel it (almost) every day from September - March, of every year. Their families are mercilessly taken from them, as ours were taken from us. But do hundreds of thousands feel sympathy for them, as they do us? Do they have memorials honoring the lives that are killed in the cove? Are there tribute videos reminding us of those who were massacred without a fight? 


The answers to the above are no. Why? Because (I think) humans are selfish. They think if they are not of their own species, they should not care. I also think that these humans are ignorant. They do not believe that the ocean creatures know what has just happened. They do not know that it is their family that was just removed from their homes forever. But, these humans are also wrong. If we do not have the moral to honor those lost in a species superior to us, that live in a world that is so complex even the worlds top oceanographers haven't even scratched the surface of it, then who are we to have self-pity and expect pity and sympathy for our own losses? 


While reading this, you may think these words are wrong, but just think about it for a while. Re-read the post, absorb what the message is, and you just might agree.
